step by step tutorial on how to construct a 12v 5000w inverter

Before constructing a power inverter you must have read and understand it working principles, the stages of an inverter the materials or equipment needed before construction, the safety precautions you must applied or consider when installing or using a power inverter, you must have known How to decide the approximate rating of the inverter before constructing or purchasing. Component and materials needed for these projects: get the following component ready

· A 2.2k resistor (quantity 2), 1k resistor (quantity 4),

100k resistor (quantity 1) and 10k (quantity 2)

· A variable resistor v50k (quantity 1) and v22k or 20k (quantity 1)

· A ceramic capacitor 104 (quantity 1)

· An IC (SG 3524) it has 16 legs or pin (quantity 1)

· A transistor BC 557 ( quantity 2)

· A mosfet IRFP 150N (quantity 4)

· A Vero board (shining or dotted line Vero board)

· Wind a transformer (5000w)

Circuit diagram for 12v 500w inverter

These is a 12v 5000w inverter circuit diagram, it comprises of 3 stages, the oscillator, mosfet and the transformer.

First stage: the first stage is the oscillator which comprises of the IC, resistors, capacitor and other component, the work of these oscillators is to produce two signal pulse that will switch on the mosfet, to get started.

· Fix the socket of the IC to the Vero board and solder through the shining part. Ensure it is been position as shown in the diagram.

· Link pin 1 of the IC to pin 9 by joining together, do same to pin 4 and 5 and equally to 12,13 and 15. If you are confused check the circuit diagram, note: the IC has 16 legs or pin, to start counting start from the left after it is been position as shown in the circuit diagram.

· Fix 20k variable resistor to the Vero board and link the center terminal to pin 2 of the IC.

· Scrap the fix resistor 2.2k connect and join to pin 16 of the ic and the other side join to the fix 20k variable resistor as in the diagram.

· Join another 2.2k resistor to the other terminal of the 20k variable resistor and the other part to pin 5 of the ic

· 100k fix resistor will be join to pin 6 of the ic

· Fix the 50k variable resistor and link the one side of the 50k to the 100k resistor , link the center side of the variable resistor to the other side and link both to pin 8 of the ic. check the diagram if you are confused.

· join one side of the ceramic capacitor (104) to pin 7 and other to pin 8.

· The next step is to link the central terminal of the transistor BC557 to pin 11 and also do equally to pin 14 of the ic with another transistor. Note: Transistors do not allow much heat when soldering.

· link The other side of the 4148 glass diode to the emitter of the transistor and the other side (in red coted) join to pin 11 of the ic. Do equally to pin 14 of the ic with another 4148 glass diode.

· Link the emitter of the ic to it collector with 10k equally do so to pin 14. If you are confuse, go through the circuit diagram.

· Join the collector together and other side of the ceramic capacitor that lead to pin 8 of the ic together.

· Fix the ic socket to the ic

· Scrap 1k resistor and lead to pin 15 of the ic which serve as the + positive of the oscillator, link 330 ohm resistor to the other side of the 1k then fix the light emitting diode to the panel and join the negative to the negative of the oscillator(the collector of the transistor) and join positive part to 330 ohms, and you are done.

Note: the voltage coming out from the two signal must be equal, the v20k voltage function for the output of the inverter so because that you can increase the voltage to 2.3 by regulating it to the higher level.

How to test the two signals coming from the oscillator with a meter
Connect the negative side of the oscillator to the negative part of the battery and also to the positive, connect the negative of the meter to the negative of the battery, set the meter to dc voltage and test for the two signals with the positive of the meter.

The mosfet and transformer stage.
The two signal of the oscillator will be link to the G-gate of the mosfet with 1k resistor(the first leg of the mosfet as in the diagram) and join to the other part of the g gate with 1k resistor which is for one terminal. If you don’t understand, check the circuit diagram on how it is been linked.

The middle part will be join to the other middle part of the mosfet while the last leg of the mosfet will be linked together which serves as negative of the mosfet and join to the negative of the oscillator, the two middle wire coming out of the mosfet will be join to the one end side of the transformer and the other to the other end side of the transformer, finally the central tap of the transformer will be fixed to the positive of the 12v dc (battery). And test run it.

In my next lesson I will be discus on the changeover circuit (automatic inverter) with a circuit diagram and how to construct it.
